Clifford Valve Cover: What You Can Expect

I'll let the pictures do most of the talking, but I'll say a few things. It is raw, cast aluminum. It is quite thick - and heavy because of it. One of the grommet holes shows that it's 1/4" thick, and the other shows that it's 5/16". It is much taller than the factory original. It will clear roller rockers as such. There is a lot of casting flash that has been left for me to clean up which is my only gripe.

The kit includes the valve cover, rubber gasket, 3M adhesive, an open PCV breather with grommet, a black rubber oil cap, black allen bolts, and an instruction manual. Yes, an instruction manual. Apparently the installation process is a two day adventure. Who knew?

Thanks for sharing the pics. That's one hefty piece. I can definitely see why you'd be annoyed with the casting flash, as that's not exactly minimal, and looks like it could be difficult to remove.

I was just talking to my brother about this the other day. There aren't very many valve cover options for the 300, and I've always found the stock one to be rather boring (in comparison to his Jeep 4.0).

They are a cool looking valve cover.

Besides the casting flash my gripes with them are the price and I don't really care for the logo. But I took care of the logo on the last one I had with a quick mill job. I like to remove the two "6=8" and the "CLIF". That way it just says Ford. I do the same thing on their intakes. Then for the valve cover I just cut out some #'s "300" out of steel or aluminum plate. Epoxy them onto the valve cover in front of the "FORD" lettering. I like "300 FORD" a lot better then clifford.

Trozei do you plan to paint it or leave it raw? If you paint it are you going Ford blue, black or some other color?

That's actually a really cool idea! I have the same thought as you. I want my valve cover to be a about my engine, not Clifford, so I've never been too keen on the logo. But, it never dawned on me that it already has the word FORD in it.

It really gets people when you just leave the "FORD" lettering on the intake. Some people think it was some experimental Ford part.

I always thought if I'm going to be displaying their logo on my vehicle shouldn't they be paying me to do it? Instead of me having to pay them.

OMG, has Clifford fallen to such? That is so rough. I bought mine used and then paid to have it polished. What really bothers me is that when I did a witness test I found the gasket barely seals at some locations by 1/8".

My used one was not nearly that rough.

Their quality has been going down hill ever since their founder Jack Clifford passed away. I believe it's now run by Jack's son in law.

I'm going to leave it as a surprise for my engine build thread but here's what I will tell you: It will not stay raw, the Clifford logo will be eliminated entirely, and the perimeter will get cleaned up properly. You guys will like my finished product. I just hope the casting is done well enough that I don't get a bunch of air pockets when I attack it with the endmill. Also, I've changed my mind and there will be no blue on my engine.

Then I guess I'll just have to keep watching your build thread.

Too bad about the no blue. I think it's the best looking color there is. Of coarse I'm also painting my whole truck that color so I may be a little biased.

Thanks for the share, I've been shopping for some 300 parts and will most likely be avoiding Clifford as of now if possible.

I have a chrome one that is just ever so slightly taller than the factory one but I've never checked if it will clear rollers.

Mine is maybe a half inch taller then the one that was on it, and it has the big spot up front goes down and then goes back up. Idk what year it is specifically for but it came off an 85 engine.

The issue has been cleared up with Clifford. Here's my conversation with Larry:

Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I do hope that my removal of the flashing doesn't void my warranty though.
