I'm going to be putting together a 300 for my 72 F100 and will be assembling the parts from different sources. Does it matter what year crankshaft or connecting rods I go with?

The 65 and 66 cranks used a different main thrust bearing. After that they are all interchangeable.
For the rods the 65-67 rods used a .912" piston pin diameter. the 68+ rods used a .975" piston pin diameter. I believe the early rods also had oil squirt holes which made them weaker then the later rods.

You have it backwards. 1968 saw the introduction of the oil hole which is undesirable for performance applications.

Thanks for the correction. It's been around 10 years or so since I tore into a 300 that deep. I knew it was one of them. Now I have to check my parts hoard to see if I have any early rods.
