The trucks that I have owned have had springs on both the safety catch and latch, so I would say 1st click for safety, 2nd when latch connects. With the hood up and you are lubing, flip the safety latch until it snaps back. That should be 1st click.
1972RedNeck I don't know zackly what you are sayin in your last post. I am glad that you own a barely driven truck, and as carefully as I know how to say this, just because you have been tinkering with it for years does not mean it is adjusted properly.
I had the orportunity to have the hood haised on my 66 today. I grabbed my can of spray and hit up the hinges. 1st pull was tight but they loosened up very fast. Next the safety latch, mine has a strong return spring and snaps back very hard. A couple rounds and latch was working smooth.
Not sayin my hood can't pop but I feel confident that the safty latch will hold.
OK Joe those are the 2 definite clicks I am getting. I was afraid the latch had to clicks and I was only getting one. Strap is in place for extra security also.

Don't worry about offending me - I don't think it is possible.
As far as adjustment, I guess I just need you to come show me how.
The hood on my '65 F100 has never opened while driving, but once, when I came out of a store after 10-15 minutes of shopping, the engine wouldn't crank over...battery had disappeared! I've been thinking I want some kind of locking mechanism ever since.
