I only ask ... Have you checked your coolant level ?
No coolant / low coolant ... no heat .

Is it full of coolant? Otherwise make sure both heater hoses are hot with the fan on high. If they are I would suspect a blend door motor problem of some sort.

You may have a blend door issue , if coolant is at the proper level .

They run from the engine to the firewall.

There are 2 rubber hose about 1 in.od running down the passenger side laying on the valve cover. 1 is inlet the other outlet to the heater core.

If you have vacum controls on the inlet line it will have a round canister assemply with 1 grey plastic line. This is the water shutoff/control valve.

With electronic controls there will be no valve heat will all be controled by the blend doors that mix hot and cold air together to control temperature.

Um, NO I have EACT and the valve.
Turn key on engine off. Let the vacuum pump finish
it's cycle also turn fan to off or low. Now all should be quiet.
Move the heat selector lever and then from defrost to floor.
Do you hear a thump?

If you have EACT I have to look it up but there is a self test mode
you can put it in for testing.

Electronic A/C Temp
Or at least that is what it is.
The acronym might be for other words but it works for me.
So if anyone has the right I would like to know.

Yaiko that is good to know even tho I have never seen one personally I haven't seen them all. The only non vacum systems we had were electronic and had no valve.

But I think I remember reading something about a combination system that came out for awhile. Part vacum and part servo motors.

EATC(Electronic Automatic Temperature Control), uses an electronically controlled vacuum manifold to control the heater core shut off valve, and zone distribution. The blend door is controlled with an electronic servo motor.

Check out all of the following thread. SD's and X's are virtually the same, in regards to EATC. The part number I listed worked for me.

Wow lots of info thanks for that!
It works for now. I have to work all weekend but as soon as I get a chance I will dig into what is causing it to work sometimes and then not work. Thanks again
