no heat

no heat

hey guys today me and the wife where riding around doing some things before the snow storm. we went to the store and the heat was great but when we came out cranked the truck and all of a sudden no heat at all would just blow cold air. im not trying to go to a dealer and get charged an arm and a leg so where do i start and suggestions wuld be appreciated. thank you

I only ask ... Have you checked your coolant level ?
No coolant / low coolant ... no heat .

Is it full of coolant? Otherwise make sure both heater hoses are hot with the fan on high. If they are I would suspect a blend door motor problem of some sort.

coolant level is good. it did the same thing a few weeks back but i turned it off and turned it back on and boom right away hot air.

You may have a blend door issue , if coolant is at the proper level .

ok cool and where are the heater hoses located at? and if those are warm then i have a blend door motor problem?

They run from the engine to the firewall.

There are 2 rubber hose about 1 in.od running down the passenger side laying on the valve cover. 1 is inlet the other outlet to the heater core.

If you have vacum controls on the inlet line it will have a round canister assemply with 1 grey plastic line. This is the water shutoff/control valve.

With electronic controls there will be no valve heat will all be controled by the blend doors that mix hot and cold air together to control temperature.

Um, NO I have EACT and the valve.
Turn key on engine off. Let the vacuum pump finish
it's cycle also turn fan to off or low. Now all should be quiet.
Move the heat selector lever and then from defrost to floor.
Do you hear a thump?

If you have EACT I have to look it up but there is a self test mode
you can put it in for testing.

I am no mechanic haha so all this help is appreciated what is EACT stand for?

So I just got out here to see about it and what so you know warm air but I changed it from defrost to the floor and I did hear a few thumps.

Yaiko that is good to know even tho I have never seen one personally I haven't seen them all. The only non vacum systems we had were electronic and had no valve.

But I think I remember reading something about a combination system that came out for awhile. Part vacum and part servo motors.

EATC(Electronic Automatic Temperature Control), uses an electronically controlled vacuum manifold to control the heater core shut off valve, and zone distribution. The blend door is controlled with an electronic servo motor.

Check out all of the following thread. SD's and X's are virtually the same, in regards to EATC. The part number I listed worked for me.

Wow lots of info thanks for that!
It works for now. I have to work all weekend but as soon as I get a chance I will dig into what is causing it to work sometimes and then not work. Thanks again
