i got a 2003 ford f250 and the truck works but not when you turn the key i have to by pass it and start it off of the battery i took it to the shop and had them look at it and they told me it was my ficm and then when i went to pic it up it still wouldn't start with the key and the guy told me it must be my alarm kill switch but its not so instead of wasting more money i would like to try and fix it on my own
My friend suggested that I should, he supposedly knew a lot about Ford Diesels. Should have known since he drives a Dodge!! I really don't know anything about Diesels yet, I have only had the truck about 4 months. It was given to me as a gift.
Do a voltage drop test on the cables and the grounds for the starter.
Things can "LOOK" good and still be hiding some nasty corrosion
under that nice looking insulation.
Also there is a relay that is part of the CJB (Central Junction Box) that you
can't replace. If that one goes bad they you replace the CJB.
I'll put the starting system for the 03 up in a PDF file for you to look at.
There are a few other things that cause a no start. Your going to have to
do some testing.

EDIT : Reasons to not do to your Ford the thins the Guy that drives a Dodge says to do.

I would try unplugging 3 wire sensors under the hood one at a time and attempt to start with them unplugged, start with the clutch fan connector.
( this was suggested by our resident senior master techs )

I think he is dealing with a No Crank. And that will lead to the No Start.
