Mallory electronic conversions?

Just wondering if anyone has ever used the Mallory E-spark original distributor conversions. Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks,
Tom

I haven't tried it (someone might have), but am not sure why you'd want to. What are you trying to gain? What year/setup do you currently have on your vehicle?

a well curved DSII dizzy backed by an MSD box and coil (or the like) is a pretty potent combo. if one were inclined to go beyond that, a DUI (davis unified ignition) setup has been known the way to go by many. if i were to spend close to 4 hundo on a distributor, i'd choose the DUI any day.

The Mallory drop-in conversions are around 75.00 from summit. Dui is about 350 to 400. No other reason I guess.

i was referring to this one. i do apologize...my mistake. i have no experience with the drop in units, nor have i heard anyone having used them. that could be a good thing though...kinda like, no news is good news? if it hasnt been brought up, odds are its probably not a bad product. only one way to find out though. again...didnt mean anything by the misunderstanding. cheers.

No problem at all. dui is a great product, just over-priced, in my opinion. But I have also never heard of one failing. This could be just as reliable? Looks pretty simple and cheap.

I think I posted the wrong part# earlier. It looks like 61006M. They don't have any reference to which 6 cyl., ford, dodge, chev.? At least that I can find. I wrote mallory and haven't heard back yet as to which one the ford sixes take.

hopefully you'll hear back from them sooner than later. i'd be interested to hear about any gains from this product. it does seem pretty simple...and inexpensive compared to other alternatives. i have used other mallory products in the past with no issues...if you pull the trigger on this one, i'm hoping it'll keep the same track record for ya.

I heard back today. The part #'s above are for mallory distributors with points. (If someone has a mallory distributor with points they can upgrade)
They gave me 2 part #'s -
autolite distributor pertronix 1261
motorcraft distributor pertronix 1266
If someone has one of these distributors with points they can use one of these as an upgrade. I did a little research and if you bought a mallory points distributor for a 300 inline, and upgraded it to electronic with one of these kits, it would be about 15 bucks cheaper than buying a new mallory electronic distributor. I don't know why someone would, but I dug into it anyways.

I have a dui distributor on a sawmill me and my dad rebuilt years ago, there's nothing better, I also have a mallory electronic on a 390 big block that I've never had a bit of trouble with. I really like mallory products but I think they're overpriced too. But I would have to wonder what dependability and reliability are worth. There's a few cheaper options out there that are just as reliable and dependable.

If you have not heard of them Failing, probably is because you have not been reading any of the previous posts here.
I have had, Two, count them, Two, DUI' s Fail. Along w/ 5 M.S.D. boxes.
I then went Pertonix Drop-in & have not had a problem sence.
Went Mallory w/ another, best Perfomance Distribs on the market.

sorry to hear about your misfortune on the DUI units. its understandable how you'd be frustrated with certain manufacturers...although each person has their own individual experience/exposure to different products. you're always hearing about how some folks swear by one product and condemn the next. there's no question it's a real pain to be put in a bind when you truck isn't running, and then wait for a replacement...and sometimes put up with less than questionable customer service. glad to hear you got your vehicles running down the road. i've seen the video of your red pickup...really nice! on the other hand, i have personally not had any issues with my DUI unit, or MSD products that i've used in the past. Not claiming one is better than the other...Mallory and pertronix are both exceptional also. Not trying to pick a spat, just noting that i think the OP was simply just trying to find some direction on the above mentioned product rather than be judged on research ability skills. in any case, i appreciate your input. i'll be building yet another 300 here pretty soon and be looking into mallory products myself vs. the common alternatives. cheers.

I'm thinking I can say that's one person that's used the drop-in units and had good luck with them.?
