So i pulled the loose distributor out of my 360 and got a real good deal from oreilly on a reman 30-2897. This one has electronics in it already and three wires. The old one had points and a single wire.
I called cardone and asked about the wires coming off of it and they said that the blk/pur goes to coil +, the blk/wh goes to coil -, and the blk is ground. My question is am i going to have to use the oreilly part F100 electronic module for this or something else going to be needed like an MSD box? It looks just like the MSD dist. I have already done the 3g swap as well.
The distributor you were given is for later-model electronic ignition which has a different harness than your points truck. It also expects a Duraspark ignition module.
If your truck has points and you're simply changing the distributor, you need a points distributor. If you were given something different by the parts store, take it back and get the right part.

MSD doesn't have anything to do with any of this.
I'm trying to get away from the points. I need to rephrase that this new dist has a magnetic pickup in it. not electronics.

Seems like that's information you would have wanted to mention up front. In that case, you have the following options:
1) Move to later-model Duraspark ignition. You'd keep the new distributor you got, add a Duraspark module, and some extra wiring. It's easiest to get a Duraspark harness from a donor vehicle.
2) Same as above using an MSD module, and wire it up yourself.
3) Go back to a points distributor and upgrade to a Pertronix module.
In any case, the wire connections given to you over the phone are complete nonsense. The pickup inside the distributor you have is a passive variable-reluctance sensor only. It contains none of the circuitry necessary for actually firing the ignition coil. Whoever you talked to has no idea what they're talking about.
