Different ratio's are available. I think if you expect to get the fuel mileage they brag about you will need the 3.31. I don't even get close with 3.55 mine.
It's been available in 3.15, 3.31, 3.55 and 3.73 in every model year, including the new 2015's. They also sold it in a 4.10 axle as part of the tremor package and on certain max trailer tow packages, although I'm pretty sure you could also get Max Tow with 3.73.
Doesn't look like the 4.10's are available on the 2015's.
The 3.15 is the base axle for the 4x2 and the 3.31 is the base for the 4x4. The 3.31 in a 4x4 will still get you about 9K pounds of towing capacity, not too shabby.
I'm very impressed with the 3.31's in mine but then again, my truck doesn't do much work beyond it's own weight. If I were working my truck as a truck then I would have opted for the 3.73's and understood that the lower MPG's are part of the deal for having a towing machine.
I too am very impressed with the 3.31. My previous truck had the 3.73's with the 5.4L engine, and while towing my 5000lb travel trailer, I can say with certainty that the new setup, even with the shallower gears, is so much more powerful and capable.
Just bought a larger trailer, will report back in the summer once I've put some miles on the new rig.
This is my second Ford with 3.31 axle ratio. Based on my experience with the EXp with 5.4 and 3.31 I did not even consider another axle ratio as towing capacity with the 3.31 on the F150 is more than I will ever need. So far, I am very impressed with the 3.31, 6 speed trans and Ecoboost combination.
I think we all know what he meant. EcoBoost is a marketing name for types of engines. Considering he posted in the 2009-2014 F150 Forum, I think it's safe to assume he meant an '09-'14 F150 with the 3.5L EcoBoost engine axle ratio options.
