Exclamation 3.55 axle ratio??HELP

Help please .purchased 2008 ford explorer with 3.55 axle ratio it states 3500lb limit my boat n trailer approx. 3900. will I be ok to tow this 10-20 miles each time I launch???how much to change to 3.73???

Long hills will be the biggest issue.. and a 3:73 will do little to help.. and not worth the money..


now if it was a 4:10 to 4:30 maybe.


remember anything automotive has a fug factor.. and a legal padding. my opinion.

You'll be fine. Depending on what engine it has, you probably won't even realize the difference of 400lbs.

The only concern is in the event of an accident that you end up liable for they will check the weights of the combination if you are over the stated weight on the vehicle for how it came from the factory your insurance will not cover you.

Absolutely False ( internet lie) call your agent and he will tell you the same thing.

remember it is recommended towing capacity

Agree. I have no idea why this idea keeps circulating. If you do something stupid, they may drop you after they pay, but unless it says it in your policy, it just isn't so.

I've seen the lawyers get involved.

Not saying that they wouldn't pay and drop you. Was more of a comment about "if" something were to happen.

Our sue happy society, and money hungry lawyers like to run with things.....hope it never happens to anyone I know, again.....
