Hey all, I am looking into my first F150 and the one at the below link seems to be the leader so far. 2011 V6 3.5L 4x4 is exactly what I want but the 109k scares me. Any advice for a truck newbie?
That's actually a fair price for the truck as it is optioned. Nothing wrong with ecoboost. The 5.0 is my preference but that truck seems good. Just check on the maintenance records. You will be out of warranty at 109k so something to consider. If everything is in good shape mechanically and no rust, then $21k is fair. But never pay asking price.
I drive about 16,000 miles per year. I did not consider the warranty issue though, that is a big red flag. I could get a V8 with a 5L that has less miles and is under warranty but I'm just concerned about gas cost.
You will lay the same fuel cost for the 3.5 eco versus the 5.0L I average 20.5 mixed in my 5.0L F150 now that is 2wd but a 2wd eco would get the same or similar. Ecoboost is great but I isn't a mpg gimmick. Its a trick to achieve 6.0L ish power from 3.5L displacement. If you tow to the limits of a half ton, then get the eco. I can tow 9000lbs in my 5.0L if needed. For me, if that truck had 96k miles, that would be a different story cuz you could purchase an extended warranty but it looks like that truck made it to the end of warranty and then someone traded it in.
You might be able to get an aftermarket warranty but max two years with those miles. I bought a 2010 Platinum with 81k a few weeks ago and was able to get a Ford warranty for two years and was told by where I got my loan that of it had less than 115k on it I could get an extended warranty through them when my two year is up
That is a sweet truck wish mine was loaded up like that......the 5.0 is on par if not superior to the ecoboost in mpg......I'm no engine expert but from what I see any well built modern engine should go 200k......100k is the old standard......test drive that truck like you stole it then if you buy it drive it like your paying to fix it if it breaks.......without any knowledge of blue book pricing and what not I actually think you'd be getting a lot of truck for the money ( which I'd offer 20k or full price as out the door price) ......good luck
I think it's not a bad deal but I'd still ask for a discount or an option to sweeten the pot such as a piece of routine maintenance being performed early for free.
However, keep in mind that the major routine maintenance points are coming due in about 30-40 miles. To name a few, plugs, coolant flush, trans / transfer case flush and axles flush. This isn't a huge amount of money nor should it be a deal breaker buuuut it's pretty necessary to keep em running for a good long life.
Nice truck! Ask for the maintenance records. I had a 2001 I sold with 210,000+ miles on it and the guy paid the asking price (high retail) on the spot. He's still driving it 4 yrs later. If what you're looking at has been well maintained then I say go work your best deal and drive it home.
I would not be concerned about the mileage. I would want to be the first person to start the truck up after it sat all night just to hear what it sounds like cold.
I had the dealer replace my plugs and cool packs because I was so close to the 90k service. Maybe have them do some other maintenance like Tim suggested, maybe brakes all around! My other f-series is a 97 250HD with 238,+++ on it and I bought it with 234,000 I don't really care too much about miles. Good luck in your test drive.
