It is a gopro world with that said I bought the ion and really like it. It doesn't have gps so can't help you there. I like it for the price and mainly liked that it it is water proof by itself doesn't need a case for water and it is lower profile, also had built in wifi so I can use my iPhone/iPad (or any smart device) to control it with out having to buy extras.
But agin its a gopro world so all my mounts are gopro mounts and I just bought an adapter.
If the YouTube videos taken with an Ion are actually from that camera they're impressive especially considering their cost vs GoPro.
It does do a great job at filming. But there are some features that gopro does a better job, like time laps. The gopro you can change the settings but the ion is pre set and it really just doesn't work well.
Check out the RePlay 1080XD. It's a bullet style camera, quite a few mount options, especially if you are mounting on your bike, helmet, clip it to your hat, mount it on your M2A3 Bradley for the action shots of you shooting 25mm ammo downrange.
But it's about the size of a small flashlight. Takes pretty good action video, and it isn't bulky like a go-pro. Battery life is pretty good, and has a extended battery pack, and live or replay monitor to fine-tune and adjust your angles before recording(an extra purchase item though). I got mine for pretty cheap, and the video quality comparison was better on the 1080, and didn't have the go-pro "fisheye" effect. Youtube Replay 1080XD video's and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Ultimately it all comes down to what you want to use it for the most. Just another option to choose from.
Looks like it has some fancy features like wifi and GPS. Definitley not a bad price tag on that either! Garmin makes some good stuff. I have their GPS "watch," the foretrex 401.
I do as well, I use it a lot when I get somewhere new, and create a start waypoint, so I can always get back there, very handy when you are riding your quad in the woods, and have to turn around. I really miss my old camcorder. somebody stole it, but it had a nice big built in hard drive, and took really good video.
