Digital Camcorder / Camera

I've searched the net on photography forums, and I couldn't get any good info so I hope someone here can help.

I want to take short videos that I can watch and share online with my computer, in other words MPEG or some other digital format.

Is there any digital camera that takes good videos? My Kodak with 320x210 resolution takes horrible movies.

Should I get a miniDV recorder? Is the video quality good, and how easy is it to transfer to a computer? Thanks!

Patrick

Most still cameras are not designed to do video of good quality. poor jumpy quality yes. A mini recorder would probably be your best bet.

my wife is really into foto stuff, she uses just a sony cybershot 5.1 mpix. we have been all over the world with this camera and it has been banged, dropped, water, dust, everything and it still works great. we have taken over 2 hundred movies with it. a 1G card will hold 45 mintues of movies or 6000 pics, combo of both.

i thik the video quality is great for what we use it for, just to show family and friends our adventures, and it shows a real nice clear quality and excellent sound.

but i guess it depends how professional you want, at work we had a mini recorder filmming some training stuff and we switched to someones older cybershot when the minirecorder battery went dead, it looked the same video quality to everyone.

Look at video cameras - they come with USB and Firewire, usually. That'll get you stellar video

Sony has done some amazing stuff ... and others follow.

Best yet, find someone with a camera and see if it's what you want out of a camera (including connecting to your computer for capture).l

I've got a JVC Everio Digital CamCorder. It has an internal 20gb hard drive. No need for tapes or discs. It shoots still picture as well, in teh 1mega-pixel range. They aren't great quality, but it works. the video is decent quality, and the camera will hold 4.5 hours of video on the highest quality and over 24 hours on the low quality (which still looks pretty good). The battery is the limiting factor, and I found a 3 hour battery on eBay for about $60.
