I just bought my wife a 1996 F350 CCLB SRW.
when you take off with the truck, the transmission starts in 2nd gear instead of first. when I stop, it only shifts down to second. This is only with the shift lever in D. I can however shift it manual down to 1st and then back up to D. Transmission does not slip. no codes are flashing.
Any Thoughts?
i dont know much about transmissions, but hows your fluid? how many miles on the trans? could be a shift solenoid?...when you put it in first manually how does the gear feel? i figure other guys will chime in i dont want to throw things out there and look stupid lol
Transmission fluid looks clean and does not smell burned. level is good. no leaks on the Transmission. Miles on the Truck are 185K.
I do not see the OD Light flashing. How do i pull codes if there are any ?
If i shift manually, everything seems normal. no slipping or hard shifting.
thanks
You pull codes with an OBDII scan tool that has Ford specific software. 1996 was a very difficult year to get codes. The people that wrote the code for that in the 1996 PCM didn't really understand what they needed, so it doesn't always work right.
You could have a bad shift solenoid, or a stuck shift valve. The codes should help narrow that down.
