so i I messed up today. I did some off-roading and forgot to turn off four wheel drive low. I got on the highway and went up to highway speeds. Around 50mph my engine revved like it was in neutral. That’s when I remembered to stop. Place the gears in neutral and turn off four wheel drive.
After that it would not shift into 3rd. First and second feel fine and normal, but it won’t shift past the normal shifting points from second.
I parked for a few hours and came back, but that’s when I saw the Overdrive Off light flashing.
Have I destroyed my transmission? Anyone know what I’m looking at? I still have to drive it about 20 miles home. If I keep it slow should I be okay?
Driving in a decent rpm range for second would get you home, most likely. That or call for a tow.
Not a trans pro, i have rebuilt a few ford and chevy trans over the years. PRobably overheated the clutches and the matetial could have plugged up the 2-3 shift solenoid.
Just a guess without being able to actually see anything. Time to have someone look at, if it was me i would just drive it home and see what I see when checking the trans fluid and pan. But that's me, and not always the best idea.

2-3 shift solenoid? There is no such thing. I don't see how running in 4L would overheat the clutches. Sure, they were spinning fast, but that doesn't hurt them. The load on the clutches is FAR less (2.7 times less) in 4L than in 2H.

The best idea is to get the codes read so that we know what's wrong. Anything else is just guessing. The flashing OD OFF light indicates that codes have been stored in the computer's memory. They will stay there for about a month after the last time the light flashed. The places that read codes free CANNOT read these codes. You need either a good independent shop or a Ford dealer.
Bummer, I don’t think you messed up. How long have you had the truck? This is the first occurrence of these symptoms? Is it parked now or are you still driving with its’ speed limitations?
Get a quality scanner that can access the Ford codes. Unless the dealership gave you a printout of what they pulled, I wouldn't trust any of their diagnosis. The amount of money at stake makes it worthy of the effort.
