Hey yall. I'm going to pick up a 89 f350 crew cab tomorrow. It's got a 351w with the 3 speed automatic trans. The little rod in the steering column is broke and the PO just took the part out of the column that the rod goes into so all u have to do to actually start the truck is turn the key and then slide this piece that's on a cone tor. Then to cut it off u have to slide that same piece back 2 clicks then turn the key off. Will I have to replace the whole column to fix this or can I wire it up to a button or toggle switch some how?
You can buy all the parts to put it back together you can go on lmc truck to get the right terminology regarding the parts you need then google and order hope that helps.
You can go online and look at the catolog and exploded views for the part names. I have never ordered anything from lmc so i am not saying to order from them and im not saying not to order from them. That is up to you but it will give you part names and discriptions.
If I remember correctly you have to pull the steering wheel and the shrouds form the column remove the ignition lock and get a new rod hook it up at the switch and make sure it is timed right at the ignition lock side. While you have it apart clean all old grease out and replace with new.
