tilt steering column
tilt steering column
Howdy ya'll! I am new to this forum, and to owning a Ford truck. I have a 1988 f-150. It has tilt wheel and the ignition switch does not work all the time. I partially dissassembled the column and saw the part that was broken. I need to find an exploded view diagram of the column so I can order the new part, I have no idea what it is called. The part that broke was the crescent shaped casting that the rod attaches to. Thanks
I've had to replace mine twice. Last time I went to see my favorite parts man at the Ford dealer. I asked him "You know that horseshoe shaped thing that always breaks in 87-91 truck tilt steering columns.." He snatched one off the wall behind him and had it on the counter before I finished talking. IIRC, less than $20.
If the guy behind the counter doesn't know what you're asking for, he hasn't been working there long.

I have the same problem. I got the part. The broken one came out because, well, it was broken. My question is how did you put the new actuator in? I can't pull the tilt mechanism off because the shaft (rectangular) won't slip through the round opening in the casting of the tilt mechanism. Any help would be great.

If for reason that doesn't work, go back about a page and a half and look for a post "ignition actuator".
If believe that's the info you need.
