I have searched the internet about this problem. Several posts exactly like me. No real answer. Replaced heater core in 97 F150 4X4 5.4. As you know it's a lot of work. All done, want to test....Problem: Blower does not work in any speed. When placed on Hi, warning on instrument panel "check susp". Don't have air suspension. Several people have had this exact thing. The advice is that some connector at the passengers kick panel is connected wrong. When it was pointed out that those are all keyed and can not be mis matched, the post ended. What did I do or not do during core replacement. It would be low percentage that blower motor or resistor or fan switch went out right after core change? Could this just be a computer relearn thing? I am in real trouble here, grandson going back up north to school in 7 days. I don't even know if my core job is OK. Please all chime in.
P.S. no blower on A/C mode either. I hear compressor kick in.
The assessment that something is cross-connected is the only thing that makes logical sense, but, after spending 30 minutes poring over the HVAC and the RAS diagrams, I have to conclude that the connectors in each system are incompatible with the other and there's no way, at least from what I can glean from the EVTM, for a cross-connect to occur.
Down in the passenger side kick panel the is a blue plug. I had accidentally plugged the blower speed control switch into that blue plug. I should have realized something was incorrect because it was a gray and blue plug together. Apparently these things aren't quite idiot proof enough. I popped the gray plug out of the blue one, put it where it was suppoed to go and VIOLA! I now have heat and air again.
Let us know if that solves it. Photos would be very cool, if possible.
WOW, I do have a blue plug into a gray and thought that was weird. When I get dressed I will go out there. I hope I see where it is supposed to plug into.
Thank you very very much. Will report soon.
SHO89, how much do I owe you? You really went out of your way to solve this problem and now hopefully there is an answer on the internet provided by you and I. All of the connectors are keyed except that one. There is a grey female fixed mounted on the plenum up high'ish. I unplugged the grey from the blue and plugged the grey into that and that did it. The grey and the blue just dangle almost together so an IDIOT will plug them together not seeing or remembering the fixed mounted grey mate. The blue, probably for air susp, just dangles unconnected. I am grateful to you. The moral is: "if there is one connector that is not idiot proof, an idiot will find it, as I did." All is good and warm in the old 230,000 mile 97.
One harness fits all, or most, is the cheapest way to go. I saw several other unused connectors during dash removal. Optional equipment I suppose or Expedition features, I think they offered air SUSP. 1997 was the year of two body styles, 3/4T had the old style, do I remember that correctly?
Thanks again. I am a hero with my family again!
He had to call me for the answer....but that is cool....J/K.. The guy is a true asset...fur sure. Glad you got BTW. You sound like an older guy like me. That dash work gets a little tougher when we get a little less bendy.
Yes, work, recover, work, recover, work, pills, work...... Kudo's to all who contributed to my success. It's OK, I didn't tell my family I got it off the internet. I need the love.
Just as a side note...one of those connectors on the PS kick panel you short to ground and the ABS light will flash out a sequence and then you can look up the code. I did it once on my 98 and it was spot on with what was wrong....( one of the pins was corroded off up inside the connection)
