Oil Filter comparision

I'm not trying to start a big debate. I have been running Fram filters since I got this truck. On a few occasions I installed a Motorcraft filter. Who can afford a little over thirty bucks for a filter at the ford house. The Fram filter just cost me a little over seventeen bucks. I may just be lucky I dunno but I have had great luck with this truck. Here is a picture of both of them. They are the same height, the pleats look the same. If you put your hands on them the Fram seems to be better built. It doesn't twist as easy as the Motorcraft filter. There seems to be more glue on top and bottom of the pleats also. The frame is sturdier. There you have it, my review of two different oil filters. Go ahead and blast away. Does anyone know if the same filter goes in the 6.7?

When I bought my first filter from Walmart, I took all three of them out of the boxes and compared: Motorcraft $19, Fram $17, Fram Extra Guard $25. They were all identical. If it wasn't for the stamp on each of them saying the brand, I would have got them mixed up. All three of them had the exact same patent numbers on the other end. I bought the regular Fram.

You guys are free to use what you want.

I won't use a Fram on a lawn mower.

Maybe they have changed over the years but about 10 years ago I had one come apart on a motor and took out my oil pump. Cost a lot for a cheap filter.

I had a similar-looking filter in the truck when I got it - fell apart as I took it out. I reckon the price for a Ford filter is cheap compared to what could go wrong with a different brand - it's even cheap compared to the 15qt of synthetic oil you're going to pour in...

I couldn't agree more about the quality of Fram filters! I literally won't use one even on my mower. They factually make the worst filter on the market EXCEPT for these cartridge filters for our 6 liters. Apparently Racor makes the filters for ford and Fram. From what I have read, as long as the patent numbers are on them, they are the same thing. My truck came with Napa filters and a Napa oil filter cap. I replaced them immediately.

If I have it wrong with the Fram filters, please someone speak up. I recently bought ford filters online with some other stuff. I think it was riff raff buti don't remember

Yes, it was Riff Raff Diesel. $14 for the oil filter. That's where I plan on always getting my filters, but if I forget and need one, I will be going to Walmart looking for a Fram. The one I bought doesn't look like the fram in the picture above, it looks like the motorcraft with the thinner ends. Do both of them in the picture have the same numbers on the end CR999!?

I don't care if I had to always go to the dealer to by my filters and pay their price, I would. But I don't throw money away unnecessarily. If the Fram turns out to not be the same, I will take it out soon. But why spend extra money on something, that is the same thing, just because of the name?

I don't want to spark a debate either. Just facts. Either the Fram, with the patent numbers, is made by Racor with the same specs as the motorcraft or it isn't.

Yea, apparently Fram has lost the deal with Racor. I have always heard to look for the patent numbers anyway. I bought the Fram from Walmart less than 2 months ago and it was the right one. I would always check inside the box.

There is NO WAY I would use that filter with the added little plastic piece! I don't care what kind of deal it was. We didn't buy our vehicles to cheap out on every part it needs. I look for deals, but the correct part first!!

I've been buying Motorcraft from Walmart for years. I compared with Fram like so many others and they were the same. The one you posted is obviously different than Motorcraft. I'm going to have to check next time I'm there.
Thanks for posting, this is the first I'm seeing it.

The numbers aren't the same. There both made in the good "ol" USA. I have never seen the Motorcraft filters at Walmart. What do they cost at Walmart?
