Need to replace my alternator. What brand or manufacture does everyone recommend and what amperage does everyone recommend I do not want to install a dual set up. I have read a lot about the re-mans taking a crap in a year or less.
Well I will be honest with you all, we used to have a local rebuilder do all our starters and alternators, than I found that auto zone was much cheaper and carries a lifetime warranty and in the past 3 years we have been using them, never had one go bad. I put one in my wife's expedition and no problems with it yet.
Excellent idea Chris! I missed that thread. I was getting ready with the generic reply, that in my opinion getting the stock alternator rebuilt is always the best idea. We are lucky to have a local rebuilder who only uses quality electonics and he gives a great "if it ever quits bring it back" warranty. He sandblasts the case and paints it for around $80. But as you have shown, there is more than one way to skin a cat.
I had my stock alt rebuilt by a local rebuilder and after about a year or so I had very eratic amperage adjustments, spiking then drawing down, it was getting out of hand. Took it back to them and they said they went with another distributor and they had bad complaints from other customers with these regulators so they replaced my reg. and all is fine. I still have faith in the local rebuilding stores because I get to keep my OEM alt. Hope this helps.
I had my ORIGINAL Alternator rebuilt by Malabar Auto Electric here in Palm Bay, Florida about a year ago.
High quality stock rebuild, quality parts used throughout.
If anyone wants theirs done like this and doesn't have a GOOD, known, local home town type auto electric shop near them I'd suggest contacting Malabar Auto Electric and make arrangements to ship yours TO them, they have a FAST turn around!
PLEASE STOP buying the China crap from the box stores!!!!

I am sure there is some local guys to rebuild them around Phoenix. Does anyone know any good shops in Phoenix area preferably the west side of town. I will go to the other side though if need be.
