Alternator Failure

Alternator Failure
HD Alternator failed at ~50k miles. Apparently alternator is not under warranty. Replacement alternator is very expensive. I would think that an alternator should last quite a bit longer than this.
Anyone else have a failure?

84,000 miles on mine and running strong. Haven't heard too many alternator failures on here. Someone will chime in if they have had an issue.
Are you running any high draw add-ons? Possibly a battery failing, or both creating a heavier load? Seems early for an alternator failure.

I got a replacement HD alt at about 50,000 km under warranty.
However, I don't think it was actually bad as they also threw a new ECM at it at the same time which didn't resolve the issue either (battery light was on).
I have not heard of verry many going bad either.

My dealer says they've seem some problems with the dual alternator setup, but that the HD alternators have been completely reliable. They handle maintenance for several fleets in the area in addition to regular sales, so they're pretty high-volume. I was going to go for the dual setup until I heard this.
