On my 2011 Escape, the light that shows what gear the transmission is in after dark has went out. so next oil change at dealer, I told them to fix the light thinking it was some kind of bulb... Yea right... Said its a one piece unit with the shifter and has to be replaced as a unit, the shifter, only 460.00... Needless to say I am not impressed with this... it wont be getting fixed....
My bulb was out too...I popped the cover off the shift console and found the bulb. It is a #73 bulb. The OEM came out hard. The new one did not seat in the socket well, and it did not light. I haven't torn into it further but looks like a socket replacement would work, if available.
I'm into the console for other reasons, shifting related, and have this detail of the assembly from my Ford dealer. Maybe it will give you additional insight...good luck. Note that the bulb is shown as PN 13466.
