This happened a while ago, but I'm finally able to hopefully start working on it. I haven't removed the trans yet, but I can remember hearing a grinding sound in park, and it wont engage any gears. The thing that baffled me, is the fluid looks and smells ok, not burnt or discolored. So when I get the truck back to me, I may have some diagnosing to do.
Anyway, I'm looking at rebuilding the E4OD that's in the truck. Is there anything specific I should look at? Any recommendations on parts to put in the rebuild? And is this something that an average mechanic can handle? I've r&r before, so I'm not terribly concerned about that part. Just the actual rebuilding itself.
Yes its 4x4. To be honest I don't remember 100%. I'm pretty sure I have the parking brake engaged also as where its parked is slightly sloped.
I remember I was accelerating, not very quickly, when it just started to free-rev. After I had shut it off, I could restart the truck and get it to go forward a few feet, but that would be it.
Ok, thanks for your help. I hope to have the truck at my new place soon. If the t-case is the problem, how difficult is it to swap out? And can I just find one with the same numbers on it, or does it need to come from the same truck?
