Hello Everyone! I was surfing craigslist and came across the rare in-cab tool box and picked it up. I wasn't sure how to mount it though. I didn't want to start drilling holes without some input.
Has anyone ever seen one of these in a truck it was supposed to be in? Has anyone seen one mounted in a truck?
I have this in my '76 camper special, which didn't have one, so I have no idea where I should drill holes to mount it securely.
That's super cool. I've been looking for one of those for years. I'm sure you can locate the mounting holes in the box. I immagine you can use a transfer punch to mark your centers.

I didn't actually put that much time into looking it over yet. I waiting a few months for winter to end, then I'll start my projects again. I saw some holes but they looked a little like the previous owner may have just put some screws though it. I have a buddy that has some threaded rivets, I may just put a couple of those into the cab floor and bolt it down.
Original equipment for a 69-71 truck. So says this page of history, I have never seen one in a 73-79.
Thanks for that. I guess I never saw it mentioned what year it came from, I saw it when doing some research on my truck, I believe someone mentioned it wasn't a standard item and I just assume it was from one of the 73-79.
Honestly I'm not sure I want it anyway, I can't fit as much in it as I can with bags or just setting stuff behind the seat. BUT I haven't decided yet, I may want to put new locks/have a key made and use it a while first.
I dont remember ever seeing but 1 in all the time I have been messing with old Ford trucks. I have only owned 1 pre 72 Ford but have had friends with them b4. Possibly worth a few $$
That's a neat piece! Does it still allow the seat to be in the most rearward position?
Yes, it fill the space behind the seat perfectly with the seat all the way back. Almost too well it comes dangerously close to blocking the seat back release lever.
The 1969/71 optional factory installed tool compartment took the place of the in-cab fuel tank. The optional 25 gallon auxiliary fuel tank then became a mandatory order for an obvious reason.
