I have a 1998 Ford Expedition and I hate the PAT's key crap. I have heard about hot gluing the chip to the cylinder. I don't want to do all that . With my luck I would break the chip trying to get it out of the key. I see they make bypass modules for remote start systems and I want to bypass it the PATS. I don't care about the extra protection with the PATs. I don't want to spend money on replacing the keys all the time. My question is if I buy a bypass module do I also have to hook up a remote start. I read a forum where the bypass module is hooked up to the neg side of the remote start or alarm. I just want to bypass the PATS I'm not looking for remote start or an alarm. Can someone send me a link of a module I would need to bypass this?
1. Remove covers on column.
2. Remove the antenna ring from around the ignition cylinder.
3. Stick key inside the ring and secure with a zip tie or two.
4. Secure it up under the dash.
5. Verify the truck starts with a generic key.
6. Put it all back together.
This is not without it's potential pitfalls. If, in the future, the PATS module has to be replaced, you'll need to have at least one operational key available so the dealer can re-program the new module to your existing keys and the antenna ring will need to be put back in its original position.
Thank you. So if I do get a remote start would I be able to cut the cheap keys and use them?
The remote starter is irrelevant to what you want to do. If you get a remote start installed and they install a PATS bypass module, the module will only engage when using the remote start and will have no effect on what your keys do.
