Dual exhaust on 2009 V10
I just pulled off my Banks exhaust and replaced it with a dual 2 1/2" system, I was going crazy with the droning sound that was in it at 1600 to 1900 rpm when towing. We started by cutting the y pipe out just behind the converter's where it goes into the factory 3" and welded 2 1/2" pipe to each factory pipe. then used Magnaflow mufflers then into a y adapter that has 2 2 1/2" inlet pipes and a 3 1/2" outlet to use with the Banks tailpipe. The end result is a much quieter sound and better performance. The off idle response and power is where I can feel the biggest gain up to about 3000 rpm and then a little better after. What I see is the biggest problem on the 3v motors is where the two pipes come together to form the 3" pipe after that, those two pipes are bent closed a little over half there dia. this is the bottle neck. No matter what you do after that point your gains will be limited. I would do this again in a heartbeat and the cost was cheaper then the Banks.

Good to know. I've done the 5-Star tunes, CAI and have now been looking at the exhaust for options on my 2008 3V. My concern has always been the drone issue. Sounds like you went the route I'm thinking of except I would like to gut my cats while in the process.
Thanks for the good info! Pictures are always appreciated

I also have a tuner and a cold air kit. plus a twin 67mm Tbody. Like I said, this is the way to go, should have done it from the get go. The drone is 90% gone now, just be careful what Mufflers you use without the cats, It will pick up extra noise without them. The Y piece after the cats is the bottle neck in the system, you will see how bad it is when you remove it.

I would say without a dyno I just don't know for sure, it feels a little stronger on the top end but? A good friend of mine is a very large Mfg of t/bodys for allot of companys and this one is based on the Mustang but with the larger bolt pattern like the GT Fords used, that being the same as the 3V V10's. These T/bodys are based on the one's he sells to Kenne Bell for his blower upgrades but his are much larger. If there was a market I could sell these but the cost would be in the 400.00 range. I have heard that the twin 65mm off the GT Ford is a good buy through Ford and it will bolt on, a person should check if they are throttle by wire before ordering one.

The Y pipe on the 3V motors is not as bad as the older 2V but it seems to be overlooked by most people who do exhaust. The 2 2 1/2" pipes that are made up to mate with the 3" pipe are crushed past the half way point to make the Y up. So it will not matter what you do after that the gains will be limited. The system I took off had a 3 1/2" muffler and tail pipe, overkill for sure but it looked good. As I wrote here when I went with the true dual exhaust the power off idle to 3000 rpm is way better and after that a little better. The best part is how quiet it is now, the Droning that was there is 90% gone. The system I had was really bad from 1600 to 1900 rpm when I was towing. driving me crazy. This is the way to go for the exhaust on a 3V motor, just makes sense.
