dual exhaust

Has anyone looked under the new 08 v 10 SD and seen the new way Ford has run the exhaust? True duals are going to be so easy.

Probably good thinking on their part. They might be noticing all the duals on trucks now. I'm surprised true duals with good mufflers arn't an option yet.

Any experience to how a 3v V10 would sound with duals? I know of several of the 4.6/5.4 with dual catalytic converters and then straight pipes that sound pretty good. Curious what the new V10 would sound like?

Ok, lets clarify some things here so that you don't make any mistakes you will later regret. True duals actually produce less power than a single exhaust pipe. A crossover pipe is also better than true duals. The reason is that the single exhaust setup and the crossover pipe produce better exhaust scavenging. Better exhaust scavenging means more power especially in the low end of the powerband, and better fuel economy.

A single exhaust or a crossover will also sound better on a V10. We truck lovers all like our deep growl sound. True duals will make it sound more like a race car than a truck. What you need is a muffler that creates a deep growl tone. I have heard from on of my customers that a FullBlown 3041 sounded pretty good on a V10. I didn't hear the truck personally however.

I had a Magnaflow muffler installed after the y-pipe then split to duals with 4" tips. It's a lot quieter than I expected. I'm thinking about removeing the muffler and installing a straight pipe.

If you want noise, get a Flowmaster 40 series.

A straight pipe on a V10 might not give you the sound you are looking for. It might be a little ricey.

If they made one in stainless steel I would consider it.

As far as I know the 08 Superduty's only have duals on the 6.4 not the 6.8.

Also. I started out with removing my cat and didn't like the sound. I then straight piped my exhaust from the manifolds back (for a day). Let me tell you, it didn't sound ricey at all. I was just way to loud for me. Then I straight piped it after the cat. This is my current set up. It isn't stupid loud and has a distinctive (not ricey) tone.

If any of you have the stock system and would like to get rid of it let me know. I need from the y-pipe back.

I just dropped my truck off at a friends mechanic shop this morning where he will be installing Flow Master 40 series dual exhaust. I hope it sounds like I want it to. I got the stainless tips as well. I am a little nervous after reading all the post about ricey sounds...but I will give it a shot I guess. He tried to talk me into the 50 series and I said OK but he later called me back and said he only had a 40 series in stock and he would install a little cheaper since they had been in stock awhile.

any one know @ what this job runs? I have had many sets put on 1/2 ton trucks I have owned but never a V10.

Thanks

I paid $475 for mine installed on another truck. Flowmaster 40 with dual 4" stainless tips. Let us know how you like the sound. I'm right on the edge of getting exhaust or not.

I tried true duals, sound like stunt plane no matter what muffler. the sound
is so hard to control. I heard that headers change sound in a good way
because they change up the distances of the impulses (i.e., primaries)...

Well I got my truck back yesterday afternoon. It actually sounds better than I expected. I mean its a little throaty sounding but in a good way. Its not really loud like you would expect. I am just used to a V8 dual exhaust sound I guess. Anyway it looks great and was a fairly cheap install and I am really pleased with the sound and the look. I paid $285.00 for 40 series flowmasters with stainless steel flowmaster tips.
