I just had a viper 5902 alar with remote start installed in my 2000 7.3. The guy installing it ran I to a few problems so I'm posting here before he comes back. The tach wire he tied. Into doesn't seem to work reliably. Sometimes it would stop seconds after starting. I found a tach pickup wire by msd that attaches to tach wire and will feed the alarm the right signal. Is anyone else using this? The other issue is that the manual said not to tie into the wait to start wire for the glow plug delay. I found a bulldog security wiring diagram that shows you can do it if you add a diode. Is this correct? Has anyone else done this? Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Brian
I ran my wire to a fuel injector on my jeep (no alarm on the 7.3)
you can also program that alarm to delay the start for the glowplugs and time it runs....can even make it auto start if the trucks falls to a set voltage...
can get rid of the remote and use a smart phone app with it also...fee's apply
First off, I want to confirm that we are talking about a Diesel engine correct? Sorry no signature to look at. I installed a Viper 5906 about a year ago on mine. With a diesel, you do not use the tach wire the best I remember. The viper brain (black box) will see battery voltage increase. That is how it knows the truck is running. I can't remember if I had to select that as an option in the setup or not. The other thing I did with mine, is when using the remote start, I set the timer for a long delay to give the glow plugs a chance to heat up. I will look for my wiring notes and if I get a chance tonight I'll post what wires I used.
