Is it envy?
Hey all. Somewhat new to the boards. Recently purchased a 2015 6.2 F250 CC LB. First time I've ever owned a brand new truck. I love it.
But since I've purchased, it seems I run into two types of people. The first being those that comment on how huge the truck is. They want to check out the interior. Ask me about the motor. There are those that ask why I didn't go with the diesel, etc etc.
Then there's the second group. These people are both online and in person. What are your payments? You can't afford that! You just made the biggest mistake of your life! That thing is going to rot out in three years! Make sure you total it after six months so you can get your moneys worth! You're such a failure at life!
I don't get it. I see someone driving a new vehicle that I like, I ask about the motor, what year it is, why they went with manual over auto, diesel over gas, etc. I wouldn't even think of asking whether they can afford it or not. What the person pays a month for the vehicle has zero value to me. They could have paid cash. They could take out a 25 year loan. Who the hell cares? I wanted a new truck. I found one. I bought it. I'll own it in four years. What impact do my payments have on other people's lives?
What causes people to act such a way?

You got yourself a great truck, We run a fleet of fords and a few years back my boss decided to get away from the diesel's because the price and he didn't want to deal with the eurea, so he bought 5 2011 f250's with the 6.2. I got one for my service truck and I love it. Triple black, the 6.2 impressed me, I love it. So enjoy your truck and next time someone thinks he knows what he is talking about give him the air stroke.

Man, I do love my truck. Never had a new vehicle before. I've always run clunkers. But I sat down, ran some numbers, and a truck payment was something I could do. So I went with it. But man, talking to some people its amazing how worked up they get over it; telling me what to buy, what to drive, what to do.
Mind boggling.

when they start asking money questions, tell them it is none of their business.
then when they start with their you cant afford it tell them that is for me to worry about, not you and walk away.
after you do this to them 3-4 times they will leave you alone.
or you will just ignore them and walk away before then can start in on you.
eventually you will prove them wrong, and they hopefully they will just fade away. .

You're asking questions to which there are no answers.
Share your info with anyone who asks, practice snarky replies to those who use that info against you and enjoy the fact some appreciate your vehicle.
Plus that added ride height lets us F- & E-Series look down on other drivers---that's rather fittingly poetic I think.............

Jealousy and ignorance. I wouldn't worry about it. It is your dream vehicle and your payment, not theirs. I have a Ranger, and I don't tow or haul, and I get the, 'Why not something bigger/better, like an F150'? Same deal. It is my vehicle, my payment, and it fits my lifestyle fine. Small 3 Liter engine and easier to park than a bigger vehicle.

I get asked all the time when are we going to get rid of it for an new explorer or minivan for my family of five.
Then I hear the flip side about my '12 f250 cc xlt with the 6.7l....why did you get the diesel? You don't tow.... Blah blah blah...OK so you tow but not enough to need the diesel...blah blah blah.
My answer to these experts is simple. I point to my car and say paid for reliable car that gets reasonable mpg. Then I point to my F250 and say minivan/pickup/towing vehicle/grocery getter all rolled into one that still gets better mpg and costs less than most SUVs.
I will only allow one vehicle payment and only one vehicle that gets less than 20 mpg in our house.

i like the people that ask why i drive a big gas guzzler like the crown vic, when i could be driving a fuel efficient vehicle like their honda whatever.
when i tell them my gas guzzling crown vic gets better gas mileage than their little crap box, they get all in a snit and ignore anything else i have to say.
i don't care what they think, but my crown vic will get 30 + mpg as long as i keep speed under 60 mph, and drive it like a grandma.
my mother was upset when the salesman lied to her that the then new 4 cylinder mercury milan would get much better mileage than the grand marquis. the milan never got better than 17 mpg. the worst the grand marquis ever got was 26 mpg.
