just a little rant

Im am just about sick of these dang kids driving daddy's diesel talking smack about my truck just because its a gas powered truck. One even went as far as to say if it isn't a diesel it isn't a truck. These people are uneducated morons and im not entirely sure why it gets to ne but it sure does grind my gears. My ol girl can do anything and everything that those diesels can and its just about 40 years old! I know some of you are swapping diesels into our trucks and that's cool as heck but I'll be damned if someone tells me that my 77 f250 4x4 with the ol 6.6 liter 400 is not a truck. The funniest thing is that my "little" engine is actually the same or more cubic inches than theirs and mine is a small block! Alrighty rant over thanks for listening guys

I hear ya. Same thing goes around here. Some of the big farmers around here buy their kids big lifted trucks all the time. Nothing wrong with that but its the way their kid acts afterwards like they are better than everybody else.

If I was well off money wise and had kids I wouldn't mind buying them a real nice new or newer vehicle but I sure wouldn't let them act like some of the ones around here.

I've learned over time that some people are just dumb f*** and there isn't anything I can do about it. As long as you're happy with your truck it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Personally, I felt like I needed to have the nicest rides just so I felt like I was successful. Then one day it happened. I realized all I've been successful at was making car payments. I ended up selling my brand new truck and buying a truck that's nine years old. Yeah, it doesn't have gps in it and it has more miles on it but, I have gps on my phone if I need it and it's a good truck. More important than that, I no longer have a car payment to make. Life is good, screw everyone else if they don't like my car, ha.

My friend, you are driving a classic - do not be annoyed by the attitudes of the bourgeoisie.

Anyone can head over to the dealer and pick up a big brand new diesel, and outfit it with mud tires for the daily highway commute while listening to Justin Bieber on the(hellacious) Ford SYNC stereo. The discerning gentleman understands that the style and exclusivity of your truck simply cannot be matched by its modern, plastic-clad brethren.

Good talk. See ya out there.

I agree. I have the kids point of view on this cause I am 15 but I 200% take your guy's side. I had to work for my trucks, my parents didn't buy me a damn thing. I appreciate my truck more because I built it and I worked for it! As apposed to my long time buddy who's grandparents bought him a $30,000 chebby. He is just plain ungrateful of it, he hasent even had it a year and he is talking about selling it and getting a better one. He is one of my good friends not rippin on him, it's just the ignorant people at my school that make me sick. All day long people rip on my truck cause its 40 years old. Then they say his 2500 chebby duramax will walk all over my 75 f-350 with 4:10s a 460 and a 4speed. Makes me sooooo mad!!

People like that are not worth the effort to acknowledge or even reply to. Just laugh at them, drive away and don't sweat the small stuff, and BTW it's all small stuff in the end.

I've been in the same situation, and all I can say is I'm glad I'm not in the crowd where my biggest worry is if my tow mirrors are flipped up, how much black smoke I can pour out, or how many big (P, C, or D) stickers I can slap all over my truck. My truck still gets looks, and more respect than any of those trucks. Yes, my dad bought my truck, but you can bet your a** I put in more than enough hours (with no pay) on the farm to pay for it. And any work done to the truck has come out of my pocket.

On a side note, I haven't been able to pick one (decent looking) girl up in my truck. A lot of the comments come from the baby boomer generation that like to reminisce when their parents had one.

All that aside, I love these old trucks

The right and decent girl will come along or the situation will present itself some time and she will ask for a ride, that's the one you want.

Last Diesel For Me

I have owned new Ford diesel from 1983 to 2008 beginning with 1983 F350 with International 6.9L engine. Had 6.9, 7.3 x 2, 6.0 and 6.4. With what I have learned about the 6.7 DPF and DEF I'm not going to do a 6.7. When I begin buying diesels I did it for 3 reasons More Power, Better Fuel Mileage and Lower Maintenance cost all 3 of the above don't apply anymore. 1989 F350 7.3 200000+ miles no problems. The last reliable good mileage engine was the 7.3 in my 2000 Excursion 200000+ miles no problems twice the fuel mileage of my 2008 F350 nothing but oil and filter changes never took it back to dealer for anything. My 2003 F350 6.0 was down hill from day one injectors, injector wiring harness under valve cover burned, water pump pulley breaking center out, HP oil pump, replace leaking radiator, glow plugs and EGR stopping up never ended until it was gone at 140000. 2008 F350 6.4 radiator hoses leaking, fuel pressure sensor, turbo down tube gaskets leaking X 2 (they pulled transmission to fix) replace leaking radiator on this one also. DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) trouble light is always on they can never fix it. DPF burns extremely hot and stinks up the truck. Hugh cloud of blue smoke shoots out exhaust like the engine blew up every time DPF cycles. Mileage never better than 10 mpg. So now I am back to a 1978 F350 Camper Special which I am refurbishing to carry my welders won't need to take it back to the dealer for anything like the diesels. They can have the diesels.

Ask the D bag with the jacked up, pavement pounding diesel if he wants to prove his truck in the mud then leave him there when it sinks like a rock because its so heavy and doesn't turn high enough to stay on top of the mud.

As an 18 year old college student, I must agree. My parents are well off and could afford to buy a new car for me, but thankfully they did not. I don't think people really respect having a nice truck until they have owned something a little less nice.

I would not want to drive a brand new f250 at this age anyway, I would feel terrible if and WHEN I would wreck it.

A lot a guys around campus drive their lifted diesels and roll black smoke, but the trucks couldn't ever go off the pavement. A 3" sidewall will be useless in on the trail and in the mud. Most of them have a roll pan without a hitch so they aren't using them to tow with.. Its just to attract the "diesel *****s" out of the sorority house.

To each their own I suppose. I am perfectly content with what I have and that's all that really matters!

I don't get that as much, because the island that I live on is full of older/retired people who appreciate old iron.

What bothers me with the younger diesel owners is the belief that the more coal you roll, the more power you've got. While that may be partially true up to a point, it's generally not a good idea. Doing something like turning up the injection pump without pairing it with appropriate flow injectors will just result in blowing out an injector or two. And with these newer common rail injection systems with computer controlled piezo injections, those ****ers are expensive.

Last year I bought a 2wd 87 F250 6.9/ZF5 truck for $800. Great running truck, got good fuel economy, etc. First day I drove it to school, I had the guys with lifted mall crawler gassers asking me to start her up and roll some coal. I told them that my truck doesn't do that, and then they started asking "well, when are you going to make it?" "it ain't a diesel unless it rolls coal". Then they started talking smack about how their trucks would out pull mine in a heartbeat, and challenged me to a tug of war. I politely declined (well, I think it was polite...). When they challenged me why, I told them it was because I didn't want to embarrass them, locked my truck, and walked inside.

Rant done.

Your biggest mistake is giving a crap. I don't drive my Ford to impress anyone. Besides, the truck don't make the driver any better, those new diesels don't look very impressive sitting in a ditch.
