Good day I have a c4 trans in a 79 car and a c6 in my 79 Bronco that is leaking bad from the front seal, any one have luck changing these out and fixing the leak?
Hi I am a tranny builder and its very rare that the leak is just a seal. Most of the time the bushing is bad and the converter hub is chewed or seal grooved. Sorry to say but a seal most likely wont fix your problem. Also could be leaking around the pump oring from that oring being so old and getting hard. These trannys are cheap to build and about the simplest trannys made. if your pulling them out there is no reason any shop should charge more then 600$ on the bench with a new converter for these. if they want more then that find a different place
hi there thanks for the info I sort of thought that any ways as its lots of work to pull these trannys and its better to do it once but I thought I would ask!
Is that the Granada or the Lincoln thats leaking? Havent found any 8 tracks yet but buddy is up in Canoe and he's got his eye open. He'll be back between the 7th and 10th, thought they would be easier to find. My auctioneer buddies thought I was joking at first but they say that they show up once in awhile in old stereos, along with 45s and 78s. They hold them for the antique sale on the last wednesday of the month. Used to curse them 40 years ago and now their cursing me.LOL
as another suggestion you should put rear main seals in both wile the trannys are out. they are not to bad to pull. Take your time and find some help. Dont do it alone.
Hey Privateer ol buddy, yes its the Lincoln that's leaking bad the Granada and the Bronco not so bat but the leaks are there so I gotta do something to get it on the road and oh ya the wife found some 8 tracks in good condition at the Goodwill store and that radio/tape works good!!
Yes it defitanly is the trannys leaking, and I will put rear seals in at the same time "just cause I got it apart any ways" Sirrealism , I have a good c6 tranny in another truck for a 302 with only 30.000 miles but I am not sure of the size difference between the 2
If your talking about a c6 in a lincoln and one from a truck I hate to tell you this but I am pretty sure they are different lengths. I could be wrong as I dont work on many c6s anymore but I am pretty sure. Now I spend my days working on 4-8 spd automatics and fighting with all these darn computers that need updating or reflashing. I think thats part of why I love my old truck. its all straight forward
The old vehicle didn't get exercised enough curse. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of your rubber parts have hardened or dried out. umbrella seaks, axle seals and the part I hate most, clutch packs. Wish you luck, that lincoln looks like a nice ride just need a chauffeer. Glen and Lucy's Lincoln hadn't been turned over in about 20 years, It was trouble looking to happen, that's why it got sold as is. The new owner is parting it out as his list of small repairs was to long. If you need something give me a shout and I'll see if he's still got it. The drive train and axle is gone allready and it was a brown interior.
