My overdrive light started flashing out of no where today. The truck still ran fine shifted up and down slightly harder 1st to 2nd. I looked under the truck and seen trans fluid leaking around the pan gasket and on the floor. My speedo bounces as well. The truck runs awesome when its cold but as it warms up it seems like I have something is holding it back. I havent pulled the pan to check and see if the filter is still in place yet. And the speedo bouncing dirty or bad vss?
I forgot to mention if the truck sits for a few hours the light stays off for 25-30 miles.
Flashing OD or check engine light is the computer telling you it sees a problem so pull the codes, my guess it will have something to do with vehicle speed input since that is a critical computer input for transmission operation. The bouncing speedo could be a VSS, or wiring, or the PSOM module itself.
Thanks Paul. Im going to try and scan it tomorrow night. If the trans filter fell down into the pan would that cause this problem with the trans. Or it being over filled. Im just trying to get pointed in the right direction. Like I said before this happened it runs good before it gets warmed up and then feels like it is being held back. Will the vss cause this. Ive also heard that led lights in the third tail light will cause weird stuff so I took those out. I have a full led dash except for the ash tray light.

I was hoping for a little more info than that. My scanner is at my shop and wint be able to get to it till tomorrow night. I was looking for someone with similar symptoms.
Being it works OK when it sets awhile I would say you have a bad bearing in the rear end. With oil cold you are getting a good signal from the VSS on top of the rear end but with warm oil you are getting a bad signal from it.
When the speedo bounces you know the problem is not with the Transmission or the PCM Computer.
Thanks sub as always you and paul come thru with good info not what everyone else has read and recycled. The speedo has bounced ever since i got the truck but the transmission just started flashing and puking fluid out
I'm following this Dave, my truck shifts like butter when cold but when warms up it starts having, not hard, but more noticeable shifts. No speedo bouncing or light blinking but you definitely can feel the shifts.
This may sound over simplified for the problem Crewcabber is having, but my OD light started flashing on the way to work a few weeks ago. Speedo went out and didn't shift properly. Turned out to be blown fuse that disabled PSOM. I say check the cheap stuff 1st. Check fuse #8 and #18 before ya get too deep in this thing. Worth a shot.

Reason: grammer
I did. I need to get some new tires and new caps for them. I just got done with an electrical mess that burned up two starter relays then eventually the starter and it turned out to be bad and corroded battery cables. I haven't seen you around the neighborhood lately, were due to talk for a bit.
