Hey Mark Ive heard rumors floating around that you are the go to guy for transmissions?
Im thinking about rebuilding my trans. Im not the guy that has to have the biggest and baddest or the best of every thing. That being said I do want quality and upgraded parts. I have heard stories about guys building big bad transmissions and hate them because they bang in and out of gears. I drive this truck on the weekends mostly. I pull an 18' car trailer 20' foot enclosed cargo and possibly a 27' 5er. Can you give me some pointers on what to get and where to get them.
Thank you in advance.
Im going to start looking at the beast tonight checking all the connectors and cleaning them. I noticed the other night if im not careful when I put it in D sometimes it goes between D and 2. So im going to check the mlps as well for slop. I have heard of people talking about manually locking the TC with a switch and unlocking it. So I obviously want to check that connection first to make sure its good to make sure its locking the converter completely. Worse case I can throw a new TC in it and go from there. I m going to start amassing parts to do the rebuild myself. I know the VSS and the PSom have a lot to do with the trans what other sensors and switches connections do I need to check.
Thanks Guys.
Also Dave, Check the 2 torx bolts under dash that hold shifter linkage on. Mine were looser than a chick on baseline and were causing a no start symptom because it was a hair out of park and felt sloppy. Now tight as a brand new 2015. Keep us posted and like I said if you need a hand give me a buzz.
Thanks Blaine I forgot about those. Well after I pulled my head out me **** i remembered one of the previous owners mounted a fifth wheel plate in my truck. So that coupled with it having 35's and 169,000 on her i'm going to guess the tc is trashed. Im going to check and clean everything but im going to count on having to get a new tc. The tc being bad would explain why this truck runs good when cold and is a mutt when it warms up. Any other suggestions welcomed.
That would be nice if it was just the torque converter, a heck of a lot easier to replace then taking on rebuilding one of the most finicky and temperamental Trans Ford ever made!
Well im draining the fluid out of the trans. I pulled the rear trans line to drain it and it isnt coming out as fast i thought. I pulled the little rubber access plug for the tc and there is no drain plug on the tc. So ill lwt her run some more to hopefully get as much fluid out as possible. The fluid is dirty and smells burnt. Ill change the filter and refill it with some lucas trans additive and see what happens.
