Ok, this is a confession of my stupidity. Then a question.
Drained eng oil and then proceded to fill tranny with engine oil thru the tranny dipstick filler. Knew it wasn't right but missed the clues.
Confession to include had a lot of other things on my mind. 1300 mile trip starting on saturday, loading aircraft on trailer for trip, loading ladyfriends stuff to include her granddaughter's stuff.
Changed oil on this truck 10+ times in 4 years. I know the drill, just pulled a Homer Dohhhh!!!!
Never started the truck, immediately drained the tranny pan. Refilled tranny with Mercon SP. Filled oil pan with (yes) oil.
Started and ran fine.
Should I have done something else? Thought I would share my aaawwwwssshhh****ttttt with you guys.
"SLAP" sound of my palm hitting my foreheare really hard.
Ouch. Since your engine takes about 16 qt's of oil, how many did you put in before something clicked about the wrong hole?
I think I would have changed the internal tranny filter at the same time just to be safe. Not a bad thing to also change the external one too.
I also wouldn't drive too far before repeating the tranny oil change.
As important as it seems to be, using Mercon SP, I wouldn't take a chance and run it without another flush. Maybe take to flusher to completely replace?
Appreciate sharing all the things on your mind but...really?

Adding 15 quarts of oil through that tiny dipstick tube should have sent alarm bells ringing hehe. I hope it didn't hurt anything. You may want to take it to the dealer and have a hot flush and external filter change done on it.
That took alot of ***** to type that out...I commend you! If I had done that...I would have created a new username, tell the story, then disappear. LOL
Thankfully you didn't start it and circulate it through the system. As mentioned, flush the crap out of it.

No, I don't think you needed to. Since it didn't run the engine oil wasn't distributed throughout the transmission. I think you will be fine.
So Mark would it be wise to pull the filters just in case even though truck was not started? and if the Engine has been running what's your Thought on that? Thanks for your Input mark

Yes, you should, because you won't feel right if you dont. I already told you that you don't need to, but you want to.
If you started it then you have more problems. You will need to change the fluid a couple times. You need to change the filters, too, but everyone else reading this doesn't need to. Only you.
Ok thanks I'm sure glad (I) didn't add the oil to the wrong spot, now on to another Issue we see from time to time, when the trans cooler cracks and lets coolant /Trans fluid in, what's your recommendation on the Tranny? Thanks Mark
Rebuild or replace it. Once coolant gets in the transmission it's toast. Coolant destroys the clutches.
Okay, as long as the hijacking has occurred, Mark, I've always wondered why the 5r110 has shift options, 1,2,3, D, R,P. Why didn't Ford use 4th gear as an option to downshift with?
Is it deemed only to use 1-3 when starting such as on water, ice, etc, not to use for downshifting?
It was felt that the ability to start in 1, 2, or 3 was important. Being able to shift to and hold 4th wasnt deemed to be important. I didn't agree, but they also didn't ask my opinion.
