I consider it a good thing, means I can either afford to drive my truck more often and farther or save more money on gasoline for going to and from work with the small cars. Makes life so much more grand for us all.
Mine for some reason gets about the same mileage loaded or unloaded but will drink almost twice as much fuel if I got on the throttle hard with a nice load. She's just to thirsty for my daily needs but still makes a great weekend rig/project.
My truck does well unless I get into the fun pedal too much or I get into the mountains. Then it will drink more fuel. I have gone from Massachusetts to DE on a half tank of fuel with my truck.
That's pretty good man, If I fill up both tanks on my truck full I could do around 400 miles of driving before having to fill back up again. Thankfully in recent times it seems that my truck has been doing much better on gas with just normal driving with the swap to 3.55 gears and tires that aren't half dry rotted and are mud retain tires and not street treads like I needed for a long time.
Three of my tires I think are Goodyear Rt/s tires one had been bought used and the two up front I bought brand new because the old tires had a mix of dry rot on them from sitting and one had worn the tread into a wedge and made the truck drive weird. The other one is a fires-tone tire of some sort that still the tread pattern sold and honestly I like its tread design and footing on the road better than the good-years.
I have BFG All terrains on my truck. All 5 tires were replaced back in december. ( I didnt have to buy the one tire. Girls insurance company paid for it after she wrecked my truck)
Not a bad deal in my books I've seen allot of folks run that brand of tire down here for most daily driven vehicles. What did the girl do to mess up the tire bad enough to get a replacement?
She did this with her car. Pulled out in front of me. Put the corner of the bumper into the tire. Was still driveable after the truck had been fixed but the body shop said it had to be replaced for cosmetic purposes. So her insurance bought the one for the spare tire. That had happened back in November before Thanksgiving. Took the body shop 3 weeks to fix it.
Yikes what a pain in the butt, so sad to see a nice looking truck end up hurt like that. Thats the one thing I still love about mine, its old as dirt and I know can take a solid hit and come out with nothing more than a few dents and dings while the other person leaves with a ****ton more damage. Know this because i was backing out of a parking spot at a gas station one day, looked around didn't see a damn soul comming and moved backwards at maybe two miles an hour and looked forward to make sure I wasen't to close for another car and then BANG! My truck got pulled a good three feet before comming to a stop and hopped like mad in the rear end from the hit. I looked in the mirror and I'll be damned if there wasn't a big Chevy suburban that came flying in behind me and ended up basing in the passenger side rear door on it with my bumper. Only thing it did was scratch it a little and put a slightly weird bend in it that you really can't notice unless you know its been hit before. Heck my buddy told me after the wreck that that person that got that door hit fly's in the same gas station all the time so i guess her luck ran out but was still there enough to have a 16 year old teen who was just a freaked out as her and not some old hick with a baseball bat cussing her out.
All in all it came out okay. Had a fair amount of damage but fixable. If the bumper hadn't been sitting in the center of the tread on the right front tire I could have driven it home and not had it towed to the body shop. Her insurance was none to happy with the repair bill. Did around 6500 just in body damage to the truck. Add in a rental ( full size dodge ram 1500) for 3 weeks. it wasnt cheap. Fender, bumper, hood repaired, new grill and emblem ( even though the emblem didnt need replaced) new tire, winch, winch mount light bar, tranny cooler, condenser, condenser mount, lower rad support. Didnt pop the airbags though. Almost parked the front of my truck on her hood.
