Go to your local ford dealer
Some will help some won't
You can get almost as good information from a carfx but if you can get an oasis it may have more specifics about warranty work and such.
What year is it?
Would be best to have a scan gauge II to have hooked up and check some things but if not and you got to go with it today:
Check to make sure no green coolant
Check the Degas bottle for residue and over fill, or junk floating in it--sediment, fuel, etc
Check the engine oil for over fill and smell of diesel
Do a start on it from cold and see how she does
Take if for a test drive to get up to temp (a good 30 minute drive at 65mph)
Shut it off for a few then start it again and see how it starts.
If you have the time today go spend 150 bucks on the scan gauge set it up the go first thing in the morning and do the above--could save you alot of money in the long run.
With the scan gauge you want to look at ECT, EOT, and the split between the two at temp, FICM voltage, icp, and ipr values--these are the basic things that can give you the all clear.
Also where are you located? There may be one of the guys near you that can help.
For what it's worth....an Oasis report may tell you what work has been done in the past at the Ford dealer...however, it will not tell you what work is needed now.
Personally, I would not buy a 6.0 without a Scangauge, Torque Pro or other gauge system to diagnose the truck. I bought a Scangauge first, then I went shopping for a 6.0. 3 of 4 Excursions that I was interested enough to look at in person.....had expensive issues looming, yet they ran great. As a result, every $1 I have spent on the truck has been for improvements, not one single breakdown/failure.
(now I'm probably gonna throw a rod through the block after saying that....)

Yep same here--I researched for a year, looked for a truck for a month, bought the scangauge and worked a deal on the truck over a period of a week and it has turned out great for it being my first diesel and a 6.0 none the less--scangauge or torque is a must before buying for sure imo.
