So you could monitor ICP/IPR vaules, More importantly ECT(engine coolant temp) and EOT(engine oil temp) you want a very small delta, I usually saw about a 4 or 5DEG dif, 190 ECT 194/95EOT Unless going up a long grade...then I would get like an 8deg dif.
FICM voltage is a good thing to check also, you want to see 48+volts there, a bad/failing FICM will wipe out injectors
(Note, you will only be able to check them with a scanner or a scan gauge II which are highly recommended for 6.0s)
Look for obvious, leaks(oil around oil pan/bell housing) Coolant, puke/white residue around the degas bottle(bottle to fill w/coolant)
Get an oasis from the/a dealer, it will let you know if it has had any warranty work done from there(headgaskets, egr, injectors)
When your going over the truck, look for any obvious repairs(body work) dents dings...etc
Try to see if there were any tuners ever installed in the truck...
ASK FOR MAINT records, thats key to a 6.0, oil changes and fuel filters on time!
While driving the truck, feel free to push it hard give it a few good W.O.T. runs, feel for missing/jerking/bucking, drive it over some small bumps feel for odd shakes/listen for rattles....
Engage 4x4(if equiped) a few times listen for clunks and what not....
Best and last advice I will give you, if you do plan on buying the truck, BEFORE you sign that last paper, have a GOOD known 6.0 PSD shop look over the truck. It could save you thousands in the long run.
