my 03 f250 6.0 with torque shift is showing a pegged out trans temp after 10 minutes warm up. I believe the sender is faulty. when the factory gauge pegs out, my scan gauge shows 8015 degrees! I am on the road 45 miles from home. can I ignore the false reading and pull my trailer home? will the ECM shut my engine down to "protect" me? please advise me before I have to get back on the road. the truck seems to run fine so far. John. dd
When it shows "hot"....pull the transmission dipstick and carefully feel the fluid to see how hot it is, and if it smells burnt. Probably just a bad sensor or wiring issue, but I'd do the touch/smell test to be sure. Also, check the fluid level.
It won't shut down from this. You can safely drive it home like it is.
Failure of the Transmission Fluid Temp (TFT) sensor is not uncommon. It isn't hard to change, either. If you drop the pan it's right there in the open.
Thank guys, for the help. I had it replaced at a shop in fort collins called Rulon's Service on College drive. The owner, Paul Rulon, was Honest and fair with me.
I usually do my own work but had only basic tools with me and was at a r.v. park. Does 230$ sound like a decent total cost?. john d.d.
Mark, I lost my internet access before I could see your post. When I talked to the local ford dealer service guy in Fort Collins he said "yes, the e.c.m. would shut the engine down if I tried to drive it home". I would have trusted you and not the dealer, but couldnt see your words untill today at home. Thanks...D.D.
