Soon I'll be swapping over a cab for my truck and was wondering how i would go about the VIN issue. Is there anything I need to transfer or keep it the way it is?
Well from what I understand the vin is stamped on the frame in 2 places and the title goes with the frame.
There is NO vi#, or vin "plate" on the dash, like new cars, all that started in the mid to late 80's. Right ND?
Now I hear a guy one time just drilled out the rivets holding on the "warranty" tag on the old cab dvrs door and got new rivets from a on line supplier that are exact replicas and riveted the old "warranty" tag on to the new cab dvrs door. Cause most inspection/DVM folks are just going to ck that "tag" cause it has the VI# and NOT go crawling in the engine compartment looking for frame stamped vin's. FYI the Highway Patrol insp station might?
And maybe you can also get away with scraping the white Safety Standard Certification Label by the dvrs side door striker and transfer it. Not that it matters, I have only seen one insp place look at that sticker and the warranty tag together. FYI I just read that "You cannot save those stickers. I have tried numerous approaches to them. The guy I worked for also worked at a Ford Dealership and found out that the stickers were designed to self destruct if attempts were made to remove them"???
But to not be a shoot house lawyer on this, you should just ask your local DVM on what you need to do as far as the correct and legal way to do this. Get a name of the person you talk to and a State regulation #. DMV statute bla bla BR549. paragraph OU812.
I would hope you can get the title on the cab, in case they say you need it. And all this might involve trailering the truck, once the work is completed to the State Highway Patrol for a vin ck??

Laws very from state to state. This is the wrong place to get "legal" advice.
Do your own research and consult YOUR state's DOT/DMV for accurate information. First visit their website and read up. Then call their customer service line to verify the information. Get the name of the person and their employee number so you have recourse if they tell you incorrect or incomplete information.
Title goes with frame, transfer over the data plate from the old door to the new cab. Possibly have Marti reprint the safety sticker for the B pillar to help make things more Kosher.
Everyone is going to check the door and B pillar for VIN information as 99.9% of those doing inspections do not know anything about the VIN being stamped on the frame.
Here in Calif the CHP officer made it very clear, the frame VIN is all he cares about, the cab has no official VIN, so I put a crewcab on my regular cab frame, so to him nothing changed.
Check the laws, you may be fine.
Hey, mikeo0o0o0 how much was it for the metal plate, AGbackeast wanted alot of money for such a tag, I had to pass but if Marti is less I may do it.
Thanks, sorry for the hijack.

The metal warranty tag and the paper certification sticker are $30.00 each and the rivets for the warranty plate are $1.50 each.
