Not bad other than it rotated all the pics for some reason.

5 and 8 are loose injector torque - compression snuck past the copper washer, and fuel mixed in there. 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 have tired O-rings - fuel snuck into the cup and cooked a bit. #1 looks like your only pristine injector. That black in the fuel section looks like you had ICP oil O-ring bleed in both heads - likely from 5 and 8.

So how important is it that the turbine wheel has any damage.

Looks like someone stuck something in there to loosen the compressor wheel. I tried to straighten the 2 fins, didn't work so well...

Anyway I called barder turbo and he said it would throw it out of balance and take the bearings out eventually. He had rebuilt and balanced shafts for $100 so I ordered one.

My shaft might have been a little bent, possibly from the turbine being like that. I had to fight the compressor wheel off, felt like I was gonna twist the shaft trying to turn the wheel off. Then when I got it past the threads I had to pry behind it with a screwdriver while turning it to get it off. Oh yeah, I stripped the end of the wheel and had to use channel locks to get it the rest of the way off.

Then the thrust bearing cracked it two when I pulled it off and one of the oil rings shattered into 4 pieces when I pulled it off.

Sure glad I decided to rebuild it.

I'm surprised with a bent shaft and bent blades it didn't quit already. Bet your trucks gonna run 100% better when your done.

cjgray1974: Curious if you did a compression test and if so what were your numbers. Sorry if it has been asked and answered.

I did this spring when I was troubleshooting cold start issues. 6 of them were at 375 one at 400 and one about 385 or so.

I hope so. It had just a bit of side to side play is why I decided to rebuild it, But had no idea it was that bad, it ran great. just wouldn't start if oil temp was below 70deg.

Well, been working on this the last 3 days. Wed I don't remember what I did in the morning but in the afternoon I started removing my up-pipes for the IH bellowed set from Riffraff. The drivers side came off easy, the lower bolts snapped but I expected that. Then on to the passenger side, The bottom one stripped so I found my die grinder and cut it off, and took a few minutes to get the end drove out. Then the top one stripped, couldn't get cutoff wheel up there so d went to a smaller size. Started as a 13mm ended up as a 11mm spinning on the bolt head. By then it was getting dark so I quit for the night.

Thursday I ran some errands and got a smaller 90 degree die grinder and had a honey do list that took me till about 3pm. Tried some new sockets from napa called griptite, but they had to thick of a wall to fit. so I tried my fancy new die grinder, got it all lined up to cut and was in such a position I couldn't reach the trigger. I think I even heard some new words. Ended up taking my wheel off and trying some new positions that a couple times I was pretty sure I was gonna be stuck until the wife got home, but I finaly got it cut and the up-pipe fell to the ground.

Then the bolt wouldn't come out. ended up cutting the other side of the bolt also and decided it was rusted in the manifold. Had to take the inner wheel well loose so I could get the air chisel in position. messed with that for an hour or so, couldn't hold the end on the bolt. Then I started looking at removing the whole manifold. but there are 8 bolts there to break. so I take a break and help my daughter do chores, then back to the air hammer I go. 2 more tries and it pops out like out of a dart gun.

So today I got the fuel lines off, Riffraff CVD fittings installed, new seals on fuel lines and re-installed, FRX installed, bellowed up-pipes installed, plenum inserts put in, and Injectors installed and cores packaged up and sent back. Then 2 and a half hours to get turbo apart.

Tomorrow is the wife's birthday so I probably won't get to work on it but I'm hoping one more day to get everything done except waiting on my turbo turbine and shaft. If all goes well.

Your truck is going to be real nice when you finally fire up - you will have to learn your truck all over again. I know how it feels to climb in there and get some things accomplished - not just working for work's sake.

Great job!

Side to side play on a turbo is fine as long as it's not hitting. In and out play is bad. It's a good thing you took it apart though.
