Unhappy intercooler pipes destroying themselves?!

I have searched for days for new intercooler pipes and cant seem to find them on RiffRaff,XDP, or Rockauto. but before we go to that i would like to see what you guys think of this. It seems everytime i remove my intercooler pipes they have more damage on the ends and it is getting to the point to where i have to put the boots on, blow them off, somehow manage to get them back on at the same torque and then tighten another quarter turn or so. now im already to the point where i am loosing pressure. gauges and soapy water both confirm this. So anyone have any ideas as to what is causing the damage or where to just buy new pipes? Thanks everyone

They're destroying themselves in what way? One tip to help keep the tubes in good shape is when you need to pull the tubes, leave the clamp on the tube side of the boot alone, and just loosen the one that goes to the intercooler or manifold and take it off like that.

the end of them looks like someone beat them with a hammer. Im wondering if its possible they have become weak and when they are heating up they are starting to fold under the pressure of the clamps?

Oh, yeah that's possible. They can collapse just like the intake plenums if you put too much pressure on them with the clamp.

If you can't get it back into round yourself, go visit a muffler shop and let them use their tail pipe expander to put the ends back to round.

Ahhh didn't think about that. Does anyone know if they make some reinforcing rings for the pipes themselves? Maybe the plenum inserts will fit?

It seems likely that a previous owner/mechanic overtightened the clamps. The tip about a muffler shop is a good one. They may be able to also fabricate a short piece of steel tube by expanding a piece of exhaust tubing with their mandrel to slip inside as a re-inforcer. The disadvantage of this is that even a sleeve can cause some turbulence and resistance to air flow. The aluminum in these tubes is very soft, so they must be treated with care, especially use a sleeve or tie wrap to keep the hoses, cables etc from rubbing on the tubes.

Getting them rounded back out at a muffler shop is good advice. When you re-install them, try spraying inside your boots with a cheap hairspray before you put them on and maybe you won't have to tighten them as much to get them to stay...YMMV
