I have an 85 f150 and I'm assuming it has the aod tranny but not sure since it's not the original motor, how can I check to make sure it is the aod before I ask my questions?
Ok, so my question is, can the shift kit be adjusted? I took it to the shop a while back to adjust the tv cable but it still shifts hard into gear and can't get into overdrive til 60 65. Sometimes it also doesn't seem to want to downshift when I need to get around slow people. The motor also has a 2bbl in case it would make a difference.
Mine shifts into second about 20ish, into third around 40 and into od about 60 after it's warm otherwise I need to wind it up to 65. I'm thinking it's the towing shift kit but would think it would shift closer to the normal shift points under no load and easy non aggressive driving.
Od at 40 with no load isn't bad. Do you have the stock gearing? I know that if you switch from 3.55 to 3.73 or 4.10, it will shift sooner because of the extra gear to move easier.
I have 3.25 gears with 31" tires. I need to go to 3.90 gears, but that's gonna make it shift even sooner.
It's a stock rebuild. But I don't like it. It doesn't shift hard enough. Scratch that, it doesn't shift even firm. They are soft, slipping, flaring, sliding shifts. I hate that. I would be ecstatic if I could chirp the tires when it shifts.
That does sound really bad. The hard shifts I'm dealing with are really horrible in the winter. When it shifts, the back of the truck kicks out sideways. I would agree that our problems are the extreme opposites so we may find the same answer very helpful since it should be in the middle somewhere.
I'm sure that my problem is in the valve body or an internal pressure leak. Although behaving better, I still am not happy with mine. I need to have a serious talk with the shop.
