I have an '81 F250 with a '77 351m and possibly the mate '77 transmission -- automatic overdrive (now on the floor). I've searched this forum but couldn't find the answer. Is there only one kind of aod from that time? How can I find out what type it is? The top bolts measure about seven inches apart and the motor is definately a 351m.
Look at the pan. An AOD pan is mostly rectangular, with the back corners tapering a bit twords the end. Or, a surefire way is to count the pan bolts. An AOD should have 14. Also, every AOD I've seen has "metric" stamped on the pan.
