My 88 F-150 has an AOD that was installed later to replace the Mazda standard shift transmission. On the oil pan there is stamped Ford Automatic Overdrive, it also has stamped in large letters on the pan "METRIC". does this have any significance other than that it may have all metric sizes? How about shifting speeds and all? This one shifts into overdrive at about 37 mph. I thought that it may have been made for foreign sale. My Crown Vic has the same transmission and it does not hav the "METRIC" stamped into the pan.
My 1995 F-150 has the 4R70W (the electronically controlled version of the AOD) and the pan says METRIC, so I assume it just means everything inside is metric. I wouldn't read anything into it.
Did you do the swap or was it before you got the truck? If so can you clue me into what all was involved in the swap? Also how hard was it to do the swap. I'm looking into this same thing for my truck, mainly becuse the clutch is starting to kill my left knee, especially in Houston, Tx traffic.

I did not do the swap, It had been done before I bought the truck. Whoever done it done a very nice job. The only way I could tell is the clutch master cylinder is still there. Otherwise it is perfect, including the shifter on the tree and everything. Ive only done one of these swaps before and it was on a 51 Ford, I yanked the automatic and put in a 3 speed stick. It was fairly easy because I had a complete car to get parts from.
