'47 Pickup questions
Im new here, but not to Ford trucks. I've got a few... '49 F1, '54 F100, '73 F250 and most recently, a '47 which is a hand me down from my father in law who wants it to go to my step son.
Long story short, he had the truck "rebuilt" a couple times and most of the work is simply garbage so I am going through the truck to get it safe to drive. The deeper I get, the more I realize these trucks have some pretty unique features and designs which I know very little about.
The first question I have is around cab mounts. The front cab mounts that are on there now are just cut down 2x4 blocks. The more I search, the more I am seeing something about "springs" which live under the mounts to allow the cab to flex? Is this necessary? Has anyone done a uruthane donut conversion that has worked? If so, what are the parts used? Are springs still required in this config? Finally, does anyone have pictures of stock mounts and or modified mounts?
The second question I have is on the battery tray. When we got the truck it has an oversized battery which is held in by a rotted bungie. Does anyone have photos of the stock battery mount?
Finally, has anyone done a gas tank relocation to behind the axle? If so, what tank is used? Photos? This seems like a no brainer (my 49 and 54 have relocated tanks) for safety, and would allow the battery to be relocated under the seat.
Thanks all!

lots of questions! - I have a 1940 one ton,
1. cab mounts -
they were oak blocks, rotted out, I used poly bushings from energy suspension.com , various colors available, all different sizes, but the two fronts were taller than the rear mounts - I looked up universal ones that were conical and tried to get a comparable height measurement, mine actually matched similar rear axle bump stop mounts from a modern honda.
2. battery tray, mine was replaced with a welded tray atop two long angle iron (est 16 inches) mounts welded to frame. the goal was to get it high enough to be above the exhaust ports, but low enough for hood clearance and hinge spring clearance.
3. gas tank - I relocated my rusted gas tank to rear between axle and bumper - went to overtons.com , got a plastic boat tank with matching sender. then got galanized metal straps from lowes with rubber 2 inch wide (home) door sealing for cushion between the straps and tank. made up custom sheet metal box for skid protection (cheap). note - the tank is cheap ($200)and works, but it does have a lot of sloshing, has no baffles. you can have a metal one made for $6-800 and it will work better.
if you want pics, send me your email and i will get you access to my google pics website with 100s of pics.
all the best,

Great info! Thanks.
On the cab mounts, there is no spring system on them? As I understand it, there should be some springs which allow some flex. If thats not the case I think Ill just go with something similar to what you have.
Thanks so much!
great question..
to clarify..
there are 4 mounting points between the body and frame. I used the poly bushings here.
now - the bolts were extra long... on the underside of the frame there were springs and washers, so it was a dual design.
The bolts pass thru a washer, body, then the poly bushing, then the frame, then the washer, spring, washer and a nylock lock nut.
above the frame rail are bushings replacing the wood, below are spring setups.
hope this is clear.
best..
