My 04 F-150 has recently been blowing these two codes. I've replaced the coil pack already and it is still making the check engine list come of. Just put some injector cleaner in the tank last night, so that might take a while to work through. Any other suggestions that I should be looking for?
Here's an update, it only seems to happen when the motor is cold. after it's up to temp, I can clear the codes and run for hours without it throwing a code. let it sit overnight or 8 hrs at work, then within 5 miles I get a code. BTW, this cylinder had a heli-coil installed due to the stripped spark plug thread problem.
Any help would be appreciated as not I'm down to only having this for transportation. Wife want's a divorce!
Geo.,
The code P0316 is a Crank Position Sensor or CPS. I had this same code on My 04 Superduty. I replaced the sensor & it runs better but like yours it runs ruff at idle or when it hits over drive. I'm still trouble shooting to correct this. The CPS monitors the timing of the motor. hope this helps.
My code reader book and Chilton's manual says that the P3016 is for a misfire under 1000 rpms. Truck is still doing the same thing after all this time. Let it warm up, clear the codes, then it runs great. would be CPS act up when it's cold? Also,,it's always the #2 cylinder? Maybe a faulty injector?
Sounds like we are having simalar problems ! this is my only trans. as well. I have checked each coil pack and there all good. basically mine runs like **** at LOW RPM's runs better after its warm i would agree but I can tell that its not running like it should. I turn off my overdrive on freeway speeds and it seems to help with the chugging cuz the RPMs go up ! not sure on CPS when its cold ?? nut mines worse when its cold. Right now Im still troubling shooting ! nursing this along until my next payday ! Gonna have a shop tell me whats going on with it ! I'll let you know what I find out probably late next week ! Let me know if find out anything new !
New to forum. Bought an '05 Navigator in May 2014. Got first P0308 misfire about a month ago. Replaced plugs, plug boots, swapped #5 & #8 coils, ran injector cleaner, replaced #8 injector, replaced fuel filter, cleaned MAF sensor, replaced air cleaner...still throws P0308 on cold start. Took to Ford Dealer today for computer diagnosis. Mechanic demonstrated the misfire on his computer even when hot. He ran compression test-good, fuel pressure-good, PCM-good, injector and plug firing -good. His theory is a sticky valve maybe bad valve spring. I have computer scans showing the misfire with engine warmed up and observed the misfire subside when RPMs are increased to 2500 or so. Cost me $95, but declined the $427 estimate to remove valve cover and look see. Plan to do that myself over the weekend. Meanwhile I'm driving with my scanner plugged in to kill the code!
My P0308 saga continues. Inspected the Bank 2 valve train and found no problems. While I had the valve cover off, I replaced the lash adjusters on #8 and the phaser gear. Followed the factory service manual exactly, but managed to get the cam out of time (got P0345, P0349 & original issue P0308)! After multiple attempts to correct timing without removing the front cover and after three more visits with the Ford dealer to reflash the PCM and then reprogram a replacement PCM they recommended engine replacement for $8000 + taxes!! They refused to retime and repair, so I had it hauled to the Lincoln dealer where they took the time to understand the problem and all the actions I had taken to fix it. They removed front cover and retimed the motor, ran compression and cylinder leak-down tests and found no mechanical problems or damage from being out of time (no bent valves, etc.). Their two Ford certified master techs consulted the regional master tech and they are baffled. Engine purrs and still brings in the P0308 code. They used a bore scope to inspect the cylinder, tested every possible sensor input and PCM output and have no clue how to solve the problem. I invested $1300 before taking to Lincoln dealer and their bill will be $2500 +, and I'm back where I started!!!
