A bad CMP sensor ("CPS") does not always throw a code when it's going bad, but according to the codes listed in this link that is a code for the CMP sensor.
i know--that is the code im getting when i pull off the scmt 1705. the only problem is i get no codes in the stock program. i just tried to put it back to where it was after the '10k' mod. its been hell since then.
now im starting to get the error code p1210 and p1211 which is the icp sensor---could this be bad? i also changed the fuel filter and drained the water separator bowl at the same time. is it possible that i have air in the system? the wife says if it doesnt start and run smoothly, she can turn it off then start it again and itll run fine but the service engine soon light still comes on and stays on. anybody got any ideas????
The 1210 or 1211 code is probably a slow acting IPR. If the ICP were reporting the wrong information to the ECU, then the ICP could be bad. The only way to know for sure is to install a break out to the ICP and measure the voltage with a DVOM. If the voltage is going off the charts, so to speak, then the ICP is probably bad but, in all likelihood, the ICP is reporting what it "sees" and the real culprit is the IPR. I think the tipoff in this case is the fact that you have both a 1210 code (ICP above expected level) and a 1211 code (ICP below desired). Here is something to try: Start the truck and let it idle during a time when it is giving you a rough idle, then while it is idling, unplug the ICP. If it smooths out, the ICP is bad. If it either doesn't smooth out or dies, the IPR is sticking and probably needs replaced.
Also, you can check for foamy oil by removing the oil fill extention and shining a light into the head while the engine is running. The oil coming out of the injectors should be whatever the oil's color is. If it is turning whitish or foamy, you've got air in it (I doubt that is the problem).

one other thing---the original 10k resistor i tried to use at first was about 3 times the size as a 1 watt and im wondering if i might of bent the plug open a little. would this cause me to get these error codes?
