Cam Position Sensor Problem, and other code stored.
On a hunting trip about 1/2 mile from the property, truck running great bucked hard once and set a code, SES lit. Another 1/4 mile down the road, it bucked harder and shut off. I coasted to a stop at the entrance to the property and was greeted by a cloud of unburnt diesel as I opened the door to get out. Tried to restart and it wasn't going to happen.
AT that point safely off the road, I unloaded the atv and went hunting. When I returned several hours later, turned the key got the wait to start along with the glow plugs and fired off like it never happened.
When I got back to a friends house I let it run, and it stalled within 15 minutes SES lit again.
With no way to read the codes, I figured the only thing I was prepared to do was replace the CPS. Truck ran fine the rest of the weekend after I replaced it. Got home Sunday afternoon scanned with AE and had 2 CPS codes stored, PO340, and PO344.
One other code that stored was B1352 Ignition Key in Circuit fault. I've done several searches, a ton of reading, and have been unable to find a definitive answer on what this is or if anyone has been able clear it and keep it from returning. My door chime is intact and working etc.. Although I don't think it had anything with my weekend problem any input would be appreciated.
On another note, I now have an android tablet/scan tool that will live in the truck. AE and a laptop 1.5 hours away was, and is worthless!
It's what's called a phantom code. Those are the reason so many suggest clearing all the codes and driving to see which codes come back. That can keep you from chasing your tail diagnosing things.
That one has actually been showing up for quite some time. I suppose its possible that the CPS has been on the way out for a while. It sure seems to idle and run smoother now.
I will trying scanning in a few days and see if it comes back.
