switched radios now steering wheel controls don't work

just put an OEM mp3/6 cd radio in my 06 in place of an OEM 6 cd radio

pluged in fine, works fine, but steering wheel controls don't work, and the color of the readout is blue not green
i have heard that the radios need to be programed to the the VIN of the car
not sure if this is my issue, and my dealer says he has never heard of this

does anyone know if reprograming the radio to your vin is something that is done and if so would it cure the problem with the steering wheel controls not working and or change readout color

and if so who does this?

thanks

thanks
not sure the year
but it says Manufactured september 1038 on a sticker

and are you saying no they don't need programed to the vin of the car?
reason i ask is there are internet sellers of radios that say they will program the radio you buy from them if you send the vin

I may be wrong but i I think the radios that are VIN locked are more along the lines of Lexus, Mercedes, BMW, Infinity, Maybe Toyota and Honda; But I have never heard of the fords being VIN locked. Like i said, I could be wrong though....

well hell, I wish I knew about this when I got the PAC module for my F350, I would have got this instead....

I'm almost tempted to get this now anyway and switch it out....
