Ok so i found out the problem wit hthe tranny. The torque converter is going. Ford wants 1297.00 bones to fix it. I can get the converter fro 200.00 or so. I have done verything to automobils except tranny work and torque converters. is this something i want to tacle. and if so is there any advice or cheats to get the job done. It it a 96 xlt 351 . Thanks for any help you can give.
I would suggest buying a repair manual from the parts store and then you might know if you want to do it or pay someone. some questions i would ask myself is:
Do i have other transportation if i run into a snag (wrong part from parts house, etc)
Am i sure it is the converter - how did you determine it was the problem?
Do i have the tools needed? (transmission jack, etc. the manual should help with what you will need)
Where am i going to do the work - dirt ground is not the place for this type job.
I've found that getting help also helps - just don't give them the beer 'till the job is done
Yeah i think i found someone that wil ldo it for about 500.00 and i think that is worth it so i dont have to screw with it. The reason i say the torque con is bad is the code came back as 62 (Torque slip) so and before this it was chattering but i changed the fluid and it stoped for a short time but then the light started blinking (OD) so we know the torque is bad and of course the tranny could have problems as well but wont know till thye pull it out. thanks for the advice.
