camber issue with 1979 kingpin dana 60

hey guys! currently driving my 68 highboy with a 79 high pinion king pin axle up front. i have bad positive camber, wearing out the outsides of the tires badly. the axle was rebuilt before i bought it, so im unsure of whats goin on with it. what are some common fixes for this problem? im looking for answers in a bunch of places but coming up empty. please steer me in the right direction!

Saying it's rebuilt, versus actualy rebuilt is two different things. The only ways I can see the camber being off would be pinion angle way wrong, king pin bushings worn badly, or a badly bent axle tubes. I'd bet your king pins were never rebuilt.

just curious if the camber has actually been measured to confirm? too much toe-in will wear the outside of the tires also.

My 79 F150 4x4 Dana 44 suffers from the same positive camber issue, even with new ball joints. I found shims are made to correct this, they are tapered and fit between the knuckle and the spindle. A Google image search for "Dana 60 camber shims" will give you and idea. Seems to be more options for the 44 than the 60 however.

Thanks for the info, I have since found the moog and a few other kingpin camber kits. I know the pinion is good, and those spindle shims can get hairy and give you stub shaft fitment problems.

I have used the Moog K992 adjusters. It seemed like every time I looked at the truck, they had loosened themselves up and I had a bunch of negative camber and toe.

They were torqued to spec but still had problems.

My opinion is the only way I would run them is to re-torque at every oil change. That -might- be often enough.

I ended up using another brand that uses a positive pin index hole but I forget the brand name.

So far, so good.
